John really began writing scripts while a teacher at school. Every Christmas at school concerts something original had to be written to meet the needs of any one particular class.
It was until many years later John began writing scripts for adults, mainly comedic, after joining Perth Drama Group.
The group were looking for new material and John had two plays performed by them, ‘The Reunion’ and ‘Weighing of the Hearts.’
Later on he was asked by a friend who puts on murder mysteries for charity if he would write a couple of scripts on the ‘whodunnit’ theme.
He has also written more serious pieces one of which was performed in Dundee in 2018 entitled ‘Living Room.’
As well as writing plays John has collaborated with musician and composer Colin Grant in writing the lib and lyrics to a new musical called ‘Bluebeard’ which received it’s premiere in 2007. Since then he has worked with Colin in a new musical for children based on ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
He is currently writing a novel and also creating an anthology for many of the plays he wrote for his children in primary school.
As well as writing John enjoys photography and is currently director for Carnoustie Musical Society.
